    Thanks for getting me the 99% there… your reward: the rest of the setup! 🙂

    If you don't mind getting your hands dirty in Terminal (from Terminal window):

    Server (connecting TO machine):
    sudo apt-get install x11vnc
    <install prompts to end>

    after install (Set password):

    sudo x11vnc -storepasswd

    <enter passwort used to connect to this machine>

    <confirm password (retype)>
    <say Y to save>
    <REMEMBER THIS LINE: /home/user/.vnc/passwd> you will need to finish setup!

    Let's run the sucker:

    sudo x11vnc -auth guess -forever -loop -nodamage -repeat -rfbauth **REPLACE_with_path_from_above** -rfbport 5900 -shared

    This will pop open a terminal window. from Vinagre (another computer: sudo apt-get install vinagre) connect to <IP of Server>

    I had troubles… FIREWALL. You will need to enable port 5900 for in/out for all IP's (from) and TCP (or turn off firewall).
    ALSO: consider adding an IP RESERVATION or Static IP to your machine to keep same LAN IP (192.168 number)

    Now you should be able to connect to Mate 19.1 server… NOT PERMANENT…
    You will need to configure auto-start OR run the command every time you startup… (which is where I stop and let someone else take over).

    i hate that they took desktop sharing out of Mint 19. I've been using NoMachine instead and overall I'm happy with it – https://www.nomachine.com/.

  • Is it super hard to make it work on two different internet connections (not LAN)? I've tried to make work for 9 hrs now without luck. All google pages read and tried without any success. It is connection from Mint to Ubuntu.

  • Jacky Woo says:

    Thanks for the video, can you remote access from mint19 to Windows machine?

  • Kyle Lan says:

    Hi there, would you have interest in checking microphone? I would like to work with you but didn't find your contact email.

    Do you know any good editing software to cut and edit these or way to convert recorded sattelite tv in HD .ts files in Linux to some useful format without any loss of quality?

    I have a software called DVB edit.
    Very good software to convert and edit SD quality transportstreams to standard mpeg without any loss. Even burn a DVD with same quality as it was broadcasted.
    But it does not work with HD quality videos.

    Could you do a video in future?
